FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How much will my website cost?

Most of the websites I’ve created have ranged from $900 to $4500, with most of them less than $2,000. I am always happy to help you figure out what you need and how you can save money on the cost. Every website is different, so I work with each client to give them the most for their budget. Another “cost” to factor in is the time you’ll save by working with me because I know how to explain what you need to know in easy-to-understand terms.

Be Careful: If you can find someone to do it for much less than that, you’ll probably get what you pay for: an unprofessional, ineffective website. Or your designer will disappear halfway through the project. Or you won’t be able to figure out how to update your site as your company grows or modifies its course. Or your next designer won’t be able to unravel the mess behind the scenes, where you can’t see it.

Do you offer Content Management Websites?

Yes. Most of the websites I now design are based on WordPress. Don’t worry if you don’t know what that is — it’s just a wonderful new way to make it easy for my clients to change or add their own content, without paying a fortune for that ability.

Can you create a blog that matches my website (or a website that matches my blog)?

Sure!

What do I need to know before talking to you about a possible website?

You don’t need to know anything about websites. Depending on your type of business, I can offer you an outline to follow, which will help you gather the information that you need for the content of the website.

You may also wish to review the information by reviewing The Process.

What does it take to get started?

The best way to start is to have a general idea of your budget, and then talk with me about your business so that we can decide what type of website would work best for you. I will then prepare a proposal with all of the details, the cost, and the schedule, and when you’re ready, you make a partial payment to officially start the building of your site.

How long does it take to get a website?

It depends on what you want and need. A very basic website can take as little as a week, and typical websites for my clients take 4 weeks or longer, depending on the complexity.

As always, however, the website you need will depend on your specific business needs.

Why should I choose Small World Web Svcs to build my website?

Here are eight good reasons to do business with me, based on my own business values and qualifications and on feedback from clients:

1. I know how to make it easy.

I am a small business owner, too, and I know what it’s like to step outside of the familiar to learn something new. I don’t expect you to be an expert with websites any more than you expect me to do your job as an expert.

2. I believe in Integrity.

I like to sleep soundly at night, so honesty and integrity are very important to me.

3. I have great experience and education.

I’ve been building websites for several years, after graduating with a degree in computer technology and web design, and worked for many of the large companies in Silicon Valley.

4. I know how to talk to other humans.

My previous career was to translate “engineering speak” into normal English. (I won awards of excellence for being clear.) I will take the time to explain — in UNDERSTANDABLE terms — what you need to know. (Hint: I have a Humanities degree and a coaching certification, in addition to those technical degrees.) And I’m approachable – I love to answer any and all questions.

5. I offer fair prices.

I am not the cheapest (like your cousin!), but I am not an ultra expensive design firm, either. My clients are small businesses, and I like it that way. You’ll get everything you need at a reasonable cost, but you won’t be paying for: a flashy office, a full-time staff, or high advertising costs. I like to keep it simple.

6. I provide great service.

You are very important to me, and I will do whatever I can to make you realize that. I am a service provider. Being of service is what I am proud to do well. I love to answer questions, revise site designs, add or subtract features, and make suggestions if I think you could benefit from my advice. (And I won’t let you do anything stupid, at least not without advising you clearly first.)

7. I love building great websites.

I believe in what I do, I love what I do, and I’ve received great feedback from my clients. All of that translates into websites that company owners are proud to show off to interested visitors, many of whom are ready to engage in business after viewing the websites.

8. I make the world a better place by donating.

I give part of my profits to nonprofits and worthy causes. For example, I’ve donated to Amnesty International, Southern Poverty Law Center, the Red Cross, and have sent smaller donations to several other organizations. You’ll make the world a better place by using my services.

What if I have other questions?

You probably will, and I am happy to answer them all. In easy-to-understand language. I promise. And I promise you’ll be glad you asked me to design your website.
